چکیده

This paper presents results of speciation analysis of soils coming from Silesia. In examinations a five-step extraction procedure has been applied. Direct analysis of sediments and analysis of extracts was carried out by the X-ray fluorescence spectrometry with wavelength dispersion. Examinations were carried out with the use of soil CRM S-l.

Experimental Parameters for XRF Analysis of Soils

Harmful elements (Pb, Se, Cd, etc.) in the soil samples were measured by X-ray fluorescence (XRF) method. We investigated the influence of the thickness of soil layer, the grain size of soils, and the water content in soils on XRF intensity. Since high-energy XRF such as Cd K was detected in deep inside of soils, a thickness of 10 mm was recommended. The soil sample with a small grain size gave...

Speciation and release kinetics of cadmium in an alkaline paddy soil under various flooding periods and draining conditions.

This study determined Cd speciation and release kinetics in a Cd-Zn cocontaminated alkaline paddy soil, under various flooding periods and draining conditions, by employing synchrotron-based techniques, and a stirred-flow kinetic method. Results revealed that varying flooding periods and draining conditions affected Cd speciation and its release kinetics. Linear least-squares fitting (LLSF) of ...

Evaluation of background geochemical speciation of heavy metals in overburden topsoil of bituminous sand deposit area, Ondo state, Nigeria

Metals are ubiquitous within the earth crust. However, the exceptional high-level concentration of heavy metals in the soil due to natural or anthropogenic activities and the chemical forms in which they exist determine the level of risk they portend to the environment. This work was aimed at determining the background level of the presence of seven priority toxic metals (Cr, Ni, Pb, As, Cd, Cu...

Gilan Iron Age Diet: Results based on chemical analysis on samples of human and animal bones

Trace element analyses was carried out using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer and XRF on a small collection of bones and teeth from horse and human bone samples to check the ratio of strontium and calcium and other elements like zinc and copper. Interestingly the copper representation in humans is much higher compared to that of Sr/Ca. This shows that their diet consisted mainly of animal me...

When are total concentrations not total? Factors affecting geochemical analytical techniques for measuring element concentrations in soil.

Inductively coupled plasma (ICP) following aqua regia digestion and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) are both geochemical techniques used to determine 'total' concentrations of elements in soil. The aim of this study is to compare these techniques, identify elements for which inconsistencies occur and investigate why they arise. A study area (∼14,000 km(2)) with a variety of total concentration control...
